This Webinar explores what is (and is not) known about Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) and discusses some of the emerging best practices for supporting young people in Canada.
Listing of training and other events does not constitute endorsement by the New Zealand Family Violence Clearinghouse. Information is as provided by the organiser. For further information or queries about training or events, please contact the organiser using the links or contact details provided.
The existing gaps in the research on TFGBV in Canada willl be discussed, before bringing in experts in the areas of digital media, education, law, and criminology to talk about how they are working to fill these gaps.
Technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) refers to acts of harm based on one’s gender, gender identity, gender expression, or perceived gender that are carried out using technology (e.g., text message, social media, GPS tracking). Young Canadians are experiencing severe impacts and challenges related to TFGBV, yet it is not always clear what the best practices are for responding to these harms, and it is often difficult to determine what resources are readily available to support young people in various regions.
Learning Objectives
By attending this Webinar, participants will:
- Learn about current gaps in Canadian understandings of and resources for TFGBV
- Learn about the emerging research that is beginning to fill some of these gaps
- Learn about the existing resources that young Canadians and their supporters can access to better care for those impacted by TFGBV.
Speakers:
- Dr. Kaitlynn Mendes is the Canada Research Chair in Inequality and Gender at Western University
- Dr. Alexa Dodge is an Assistant Professor in Criminology at Saint Mary’s University
- Dr. Christopher Dietzel is a Research Associate in Integrated Studies in Education at McGill University
