Are you an experienced counselling professional or social worker with knowledge of the dynamics of sexual violence, and experience in crisis intervention? Are you able to think on your feet and cope with diverse situations while maintaining professionalism throughout?
- Part-time or full time hours available
- Monday to Friday with some flexibility to meet client needs
Family Action is a leading provider of social services in West Auckland, specialising in abuse and trauma counselling, women’s refuge and programmes for vulnerable children/youth. Family Action is an ACC Sensitive Claims Supplier and Ministry of Justice and Ministry for Vulnerable Children – Oranga Tamariki approved.
We have a vacancy for a Crisis Support Worker to provide support for survivors of sexual assault or abuse in the West Auckland area.
The role includes:
- Working directly with the survivors of sexual assault or abuse alongside Police, medical staff and other professionals
- Providing assistance to survivors and their whanau/support people during medical examinations and statement taking
- Crisis counselling / support
Strong experience in the counselling/social service sector is imperative as is training and experience in sexual trauma recovery work.
We are looking for someone with the following skill set:
- Tertiary qualified either as a Counsellor or Social Worker or similar
- Must be currently or able to register with appropriate professional body.
- Committed to the Treaty of Waitangi
- Ability to work with Police, medical personnel and other professionals
- Willing to work after hours and weekends
- Knowledge of the Dynamics of Sexual Violence
- Experience in Crisis Intervention desirable
- Organised, resilient and have excellent non-judgemental communication skills
- Flexibility to work within a very busy agency
- Be able to complete necessary administration on a database for your client.
