June 11, 2021 at 2:31 PM

From the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care

Tena koe

For those who I have not met yet, my name is Loren Savage and I am a Senior Community Engagement Advisor at the Royal Commission. My role is to work with disability sector, to promote the Inquiry and work collaboratively with disabled people to find ways they can engage.

As you may be aware, the Royal Commission investigating historic abuse and neglect in state and faith-based care has been hearing from disabled people, and people within the sector about their experiences. The Commission is committed to finding ways that disabled people who are part of the learning disability, neurodiverse, and cognitive impairment community to share their experiences. Part of this work is to host hui around the country for the sector and members of the community.

We would like to invite you to our first Auckland hui. This is for people who are part of or connected to the learning disability, neurodiverse and cognitive impairment community and will be:

When:   Tuesday 15 June 2021

Time:    10.00am - 12.30pm. Feel free to arrive anytime from 9.30 onwards for tea and coffee.

Where: Mary Thomas Centre, 3 Gibbons Road, Takapuna, Auckland.

This will be an opportunity for people to learn more about the inquiry and explore ways to support people within your networks to engage if they would like.

•           what you think helps people feel safe to speak up.

We are aware that Auckland is very large and that travel to the north of Auckland may be a barrier for people attending. It is our plan to return to other areas of Auckland throughout the year.

We would like to encourage you to share both invites throughout your networks and we hope to see you on 15 June.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.

Ngā mihi
