The Safe & Together Institute is pleased to announce the first international summit on officer-involved domestic violence (OIDV). With data that suggests that 2 out of 5 officers may have issues with domestic violence, OIDV represents a unique and challenging problem for police departments, survivors, advocates, and the wider community. Police officers, who choose to perpetrate abuse against family members, are equipped with access to weapons, knowledge, status and skills that often increase their ability to control and isolate their partner. Their victims often do not feel like they can access the usual resources available for survivors. A lack of policy and consequences can often embolden police perpetrators.

You will learn:

• How OIDV impacts police families, civilians, co workers and how it erodes the integrity of police responses, evidence and judicial outcomes
• From law enforcement experts, survivors, advocates, legal experts, and researchers how we can face this systemic injustice and together, craft policy, law, practices, police culture, screen for violence, create accountability and prevent criminality
• About how officer wellness and safety are impacted by OIDV
• How to use a perpetrator pattern-based approach to identify police perpetrators and create accountability for patterns of manipulation of systems and authority, and concurrent criminality including sexual violence, extremism.
