Register of social sector organisations providing essential services

April 03, 2020 at 4:37 PM

From the Ministry of Social Development

Oranga Tamariki and MSD have developed this list to balance meeting the essential needs of vulnerable people in our communities with the need to stop the spread of COVID-19 by reducing contact between people.

We’ve deliberately kept the list of essential service providers tight, to help protect the well-being of all New Zealanders. It is an initial list and we expect to update it over time.

Government expects providers on this list to deliver essential services in line with COVID-19 restrictions, to the extent possible and without compromising the safety and wellbeing of everyone they work with.

The overriding requirement is to:

  • use the minimum viable workforce, while
  • having maximum hygiene protocols in place.

Please note not all staff working for essential social services are considered essential workers. Non-essential workers must also meet Government’s COVID-19 requirements as for all other members of the public.
