Prevention in Practice is an interactive virtual course, based on recognised industry standards, providing the foundational knowledge and skills for prevention practitioners who are new to the sector. It includes a comprehensive introduction to prevention program design, from development to successful implementation.

Getting started in the prevention of violence against women (PVAW) sector is an exciting opportunity to create ongoing, effective and sustainable change. This training provides prevention practitioners, especially those new to the sector, with foundational skills and understanding of the evidence on what drives violence against women, the actions we can all take to prevent violence from occurring and how to design a prevention program.

This new online course is based on recognised industry standards (the Preventing Family Violence and Violence Against Women Capability Framework). It includes a range of interactive activities and evidence-based resources and provides opportunities for participants to share ideas, ask questions, engage in reflective practice and learn from other participants.

What will you learn:

  • Understand the evidence base for violence against women: including prevalence and drivers
  • How to design and implement effective and sustainable prevention programs
  • How to apply an intersectional lens to prevention work
  • Building effective prevention strategies – what is best practice and how to apply it in other projects How to monitor and evaluate programs effectively
  • Advocating for policy reform in the prevention sector
  • Managing resistance and backlash when undertaking this work
  • Role of individuals and organisations in addressing change in prevention.

This training is designed for those working in Victoria, Australia but may be useful for people in New Zealand wanting to learn more about this topic. The course will also be offered on 16 & 17 November 2021.
