PANUI: Alcohol in our West Auckland community - korero and collective action
August 16, 2019 at 10:37 AM
From Healthy Families Waitakere
Kia ora
The availability, affordability and access to alcohol in West Auckland has recently become a topic of hot debate both at a regional and national level and tipped to further snowball as we look towards the local body elections.
As you may have already noticed, what is currently missing from this narrative is a unified community voice detailing the realities of alcohol harm and it’s relationship to supply and outlet density.
As you are the experts of place and you know your communites, we would like to invite you to come around the table and:
- Share meaningful korero and information - we all have lots of insights and evidence of what works to reduce alcohol harm. Does restricting availability work?
- Discuss what West Auckland would look like without a licensing trusts model.
- Understand/Identify opportunities to collaborate and mobilise our communities on this topic. Are there some key messages we can all agree on?
