Mobilising whānau and communities for change

Building an evidence base and growing our understanding about what works to support meaningful, sustainable change for whānau and communities is a critical focus for E Tū Whānau. Recent work undertaken by social scientist Dr Cristy Trewartha has identified that E Tū Whānau is able to successfully mobilise community change through its kaupapa Māori approach and strategies, including wānanga and marae-based hui that draw on existing cultural knowledge and strengths. She explores connections between Community Mobilisation (a western paradigm) and the kaupapa Māori approach of E Tū Whānau using He Awa Whiria (the braided river metaphor).
