Presenter: Dr Melanie Beres is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Gender Studies and Social Work at the University of Otago. Dr Beres is the author of the NZFVC issues paper on this topic.

Family Violence Practice and the ethical implications
Presenters: Rebecca Grooby graduated with a Masters of Social Work Applied in 2010. She has worked in Youth justice and Care and Protection for CYFs and the Methodist Mission and Kylie Innes graduated in 2009 with a Diploma in Social Services. In 2010 she worked as a needs assessor for the Salvation Army Christchurch City office.

New Zealand domestic violence statistics make sobering reading. Social Work in this area requires developing an understanding of the causes and symptoms of family violence alongside societal and cultural norms that allow violence to continue. This series provides ANZASW members with presentations from current research and those at the coal face of meeting the needs of the mostly women and children this issue impacts.
